A fire destroyed at least four barns at the Hi-Grade Egg Producers farm near North Manchester, Indiana.
The fire was believed to have started around 10:30 p.m. on October 2. According to officials, the fire was initially reported in one poultry bran, but wind caused the flames to spread to at least four other large barns, and four barns appeared to be a total loss, reported WANE.
Crews from 22 area fire departments responded, eventually bringing the egg farm fire under control.
It is not yet known how many birds were lost as a result of the fire, which is being investigated.
Hi-Grade Egg Producers is not the only egg producer to be adversely affected by a fire in 2017. In July, Hillandale Farms, lost a barn and more than 100,000 hens in a fire that occurred in Tyrone Township, Pennsylvania.
