Cargill is expanding its egg processing facility in Mason City, Iowa. | Cargill
Cargill’s plans are progressing for an expansion project, in which the company would add a new egg-cooking production line, infrastructure additions to support the new line and a freezer expansion at its facility in Mason City, Iowa.
Cargill first announced its intent to expand the facility in April. It stated that an expansion was necessary due to the popularity of the products made at the facility, which produces refrigerated liquid pasteurized eggs, pre-cooked frozen entrees and pre-cooked scrambled eggs. Once the expansion project is completed, the company will be better able to meet foodservice and food ingredient customers’ needs and satisfy consumer demand.
“Producing innovative, protein-rich, egg-based foods at our Mason City facility continues to create excitement in the marketplace and generate growth momentum for our customers and Cargill,”Jessica Reith, facility general manager, stated at the time. “Helping our customers deliver high-quality, nutritious, delicious and affordable egg protein to consumers has led to multiple expansions since the facility opened in 2001 with three dozen employees and the desire to successfully grow the business.”
An estimated $12 million investment is planned for the project.
The company has approached the city council in Mason City and the two parties are in the process of working out a development agreement. During its meeting on August 22, a public hearing concerning the development agreement was scheduled. The hearing will be held on September 5.
In addition to the plant in Mason City, Cargill has three other egg processing facilities. Two of those are in Minnesota, and the other one is located in Michigan.
